What is sheet rubber?

Sheet rubber is vulcanized rubber in flat form, produced in rolls or sheets. It is one of the most versatile basic forms of industrial rubber: suitable for sealing, wear protection, vibration damping, anti-slip surfaces, sound insulation or as a base material for parts to be cut out.

The performance of sheet rubber is mainly determined by:

  • Rubber type – determines chemical resistance, temperature range, UV/ozone and weather resistance. 
  • Hardness (Shore A) – affects deformation, flexibility, wear resistance and sealing performance.
  • Thickness and construction – determine mechanical strength, pressure distribution, processability and application possibilities.

Every sheet rubber project at CC Rubber starts with a discussion about the application environment (medium, temperature, load, durability, …). Based on that we advise the correct rubber type, hardness and construction.

Sheet rubber by rubber type

CC Rubber supplies sheet rubber in the following industrial rubber types:

  • SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber)
    The most used sheet rubber for general industrial applications. Good wear resistance and a favourable price-performance ratio. Suitable for general seals, protective strips, buffers and applications where chemical resistance is not critical. Limited resistance to oils, ozone and UV.
  • NBR (acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber)
    The standard sheet rubber for applications exposed to mineral oils, greases, fuels and hydraulic fluids. Used for gaskets in oil and fuel systems, seals in hydraulic applications and linings in oil-containing environments. 
    Temperature range from -30°C to +100°C.
  • EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer rubber)
    Sheet rubber with excellent resistance to water, water vapour, ozone and UV radiation. Used for external seals, seals in sanitary applications, cooling water systems, roof seals and container roofs. Temperature range from -40°C to +120°C. Not suitable for oil contact.
  • CR (neoprene / polychloroprene)
    Sheet rubber with balanced resistance to oil, ozone and weathering. Widely used in marine environments, for general sealing and in applications where both weather and oil resistance are required.
  • NR (natural rubber)
    Sheet rubber with excellent elasticity, high tensile strength and very good wear resistance. Ideal for dynamically loaded applications, wear protection in bunkers and silos, and vibration-damping uses. 
  • VMQ (silicone rubber)
    Sheet rubber for extreme temperatures (-55°C to +220°C). FDA-compliant grades available for food and pharmaceutical applications. Used for seals in ovens, sterilization processes and high-temperature installations. 
  • FKM (fluoroelastomer)
    Sheet rubber for chemically aggressive environments, acids and solvents up to 200°C. Also known under the trade name Viton. Used in pharmaceutical processes, the chemical industry and where standard rubbers fall short.

Sheet rubber processed to your specifications

In addition to sheet rubber in rolls and standard sheets, CC Rubber supplies sheet rubber processed to your specifications. We cut strips directly from roll rubber, precisely according to your specified width and finish. Possible processes:

  • With or without fabric inserts (cotton or EP inserts)
    Fabric inserts reinforce the sheet rubber and limit deformation under high stress or dynamic loading. Recommended for applications where the rubber must retain its shape under pressure.
  • With or without (slotted) holes
    We cut round holes, slots or pattern holes in the sheet rubber based on your drawing or specification. Suitable for gaskets, mounting components and fastening plates.
  • With or without adhesive layer
    Sheet rubber can be supplied with a self-adhesive layer for easy mounting on metal or other substrates. Includes protective liner until installation.
  • Cut to width and length
    Strips to your exact width, lengths according to your order. Processed from roll to the precise dimensions your application requires.

Standard dimensions and specifications

CC Rubber maintains a wide stock of sheet rubber. Common specifications:

  • Standard widths: 1200 mm and 1400 mm on roll
  • Thicknesses: from 1 mm to 100 mm (common: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20 mm)
  • Hardnesses: 30, 40, 50, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80 and 90 Shore A, depending on the rubber type.
  • Colours: standard black; other colours possible depending on the rubber type.
  • Temperature range: from -55°C to +220°C, depending on the rubber type.

For non-standard dimensions, hardnesses or specifications we supply custom sheet rubber.
